In the A.D. 802.701 the Time Traveller meets the Eloi and the Morlocks, likely descendants of humans.
The Morlocks are the ruling class, a small oligarchs élite who live in darkness and have the total control over science and technology. They are greedy, megalomaniacs and always hungry. The Eloi are the subaltern class, they are much more numerous and unable to think with their own mind and, apart isolated cases of rebellion, they totally depend on the Morlocks who feed them, dress them and decide for them but eat them. The Eloi are Morlocks favorite food, that they catching easily with the electromagnetic waves of a powerful Sphinx-shaped antenna, but often have fun in moonlight hunting with blowguns and whips.
The English writer H.G. Wells published The Time Machine in 1895 in the Victorian era, an age also characterized by the industrial revolution and colonial expansion. To be honest Wells describes the Morlocks as troglodytes descendants of the working class and the Eloi as peaceful heirs of the ruling class of the late 19th century, but given the current developments of capitalism in the contemporary digital monoculture society the opposite fits better as the sci-fi writer Neal Stephenson suggests.
